The "Most Beautiful" Foundation

So I thought you all might be interested to know that baby Shiloh isn't Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's only collaborative effort ... they now have their own foundation, the Jolie/Pitt Foundation. According to an article on PEOPLE.com, the purpose of the foundation is to "aid humanitarian causes across the globe." The foundation is already giving away $1 million to Doctors Without Borders and $1 million to Global Action for Children.

The article quotes the couple's spokesperson: "Angelina and Brad are committed to using their resources to help the world's most vulnerable people." I tried to find a Web site for the foundation but didn't have any luck.

So do you love Brad Pitt (or Angelina Jolie) even more now? Or do you not care? Do you know of any other celebs who have their own foundations?

And if anyone wants to see pics of baby Shiloh, click here... =)

With most celebrities, it seems that a lot of them seem to be self-motivated rather than conerned for the actual cause itself (e.g., the Britney Spears Foundation). Though, I do think Angelina Jolie actually does care about the status of third-world nations given how much she has done over the years. Mr. Brad may just be along for the ride though enjoying the tax benefits and the promotion of it all.

I found this interesting site on the Smoking Gun that lists 40 or so celebs that have foundations--but they also dove into the foundations IRS files to see which nonprofits these foundations gave money too.

It's pretty interesting. Jay Leno's JDM Foundation has contributions that were made by all members of the tonight show band--hmm, I wonder if there's a little bit of "can't say no to the boss" working there.

And, don't say that Mr. Apprentice isn't generous... Trump gave $100 to the March of Dimes!

There are two of roads of thought I see on this issue. The first being that celebs actually care about a cause and want to give to it. The second, and the one I prefer, is that celebs are used to be talked about and like being the center of attention and therefore create news when there is no news about them. $2 million is a drop in the bucket when you consider the $20+ million homes celebs buy and then sell so they can by a different $20+ million home because it has a better view and more privacy.

Whether it be releasing a scandalous video/pictures of yourself, beginning a relationship with someone that doesn't fit the role of your typical bed pal, or starting a foundation to give money away, celebs like the press. So if you aren't comfortable with releasing sleazy photos of yourself in compromising situations, call up your favorite press agent and make a big deal about how you gave away your spare change claiming you really care about a situation.

And when it gets realized by the public that it is just another publicity stunt becasue you aren't getting hired for movie roles, public relations takes another hit on the credibility meter.
